Project       British Council Building, Spring Gardens, London
Client       British Council
Value       £95,000
Duration       5 weeks

Gunite was appointed as main contractor for the contract to clean and repair the 3400m2 of Portland Stone facades of the British Council's headquarters in the centre of London.

We proposed and used the DOFF system of superheated water under pressure to remove the dirt and soiling from the surface of the stone before carrying out stone repairs using Remmers materials carefully colour-matched to the existing.

Works were carried out from electric powered access cradles suspended from the roof, which enabled the whole contract to be completed in  just five weeks.

Further information on the Doff system of cleaning can be obtained from Stonehealth Ltd

Scope of Works:

  • Cradle access
  • Doff cleaning of stone facades
  • Stone repairs
  • Sealant replacement
  • Decoration
