The Church’s reinforced concrete elements were suffering serious deterioration due to water ingress in the aggressive coastal environment. Gunite carefully stripped off the existing paint coatings from the structural elements before carrying out extensive repairs both internally and externally. A cement levelling mortar was then applied followed by a decorative protective coating.
The stone block facades were carefully cleaned with water, then repaired and re-pointed using colour-matched mortars provided by Remmers.
The asphalt flat roofs were stripped and replaced using a liquid applied roof membrane guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years.
As part of the works Gunite re-laid the Church’s paving to form a disabled access at the front entrance of the Church and modified part of the interior to provide the Church with a disabled toilet.
All of the works were carried out without disturbance to the regular church services.
