Protective Mortars & Coatings by Gunite

Protective Mortars & Coatings by Gunite

Steel reinforcement is used to provide the tensile properties that are needed in structural concrete. When reinforcement corrodes the formation of rust leads to a loss of bond between the steel and the concrete, with subsequent cracking, delamination and spalling of the concrete, exposing the steel to further corrosion.

In order to carry out an effective repair, it is essential that an appropriate investigation of the cause and extent of the damage or deterioration be carried out by a suitably qualified professional.

The durability of a building or structure can be greatly enhanced by the application of a suitable protective coating. The selection of the most appropriate coating will not only improve the aesthetics of a building, but can also reduce the total lifetime maintenance costs.

Consider the example of a four-storey concrete framed building:-

Standard masonry paint will initially appear to offer a cheaper solution for coating the concrete than a higher quality anti-carbonation coating. However, factor in the cost of access, allied with the fact that many anti-carbonation coatings now have a life-expectancy of at least 15 years (more than twice the average period of cyclical re-decoration), and the more expensive coating suddenly offers a huge saving.

As approved installers of all of the major protective coating systems in the UK, we can offer unbiased advice on the most appropriate materials to use; whether on brickwork, concrete, render or steel, we can provide the following:

  • Anti-carbonation coatings
  • Elastomeric coatings
  • Levelling and fairing mortars
  • Cosmetic mortars
  • Highbuild coatings
  • Surface sealers
  • Impregnating waterproofers
  • Steel protective coatings
  • Intumescent fire protection coatings
  • Waterproof renders and slurries
  • Coloured decorative renders

All of our works are covered by our own free-of-charge Company Guarantee; we can also offer a fully independent Insurance backed Guarantee scheme for a one-off premium.
