Grade II listed balcony receives new lease of life thanks to Gunite
Victoria Square in Manchester is the location of this imposing Grade II listed, five storey block of flats. Originally built circa 1900 the flats were badly in need of repair and refurbishment.
Complex in design, each level includes public access balconies and internal staircases, making the refurbishment especially challenging.
Gunite, working in partnership with Sika developed a cost effective balcony refurbishment solution, ensuring a quality outcome
- Concrete and metal work was grit blasted and defective concrete removed using the Sika Monotop Concrete Repair System
- Concrete surfaces were treated with a migrating corrosion inhibitor to reduce concrete breakout and delay the onset of corrosion
- Concrete surfaces were pre-profiled prior to the application of a primer and anti-carbonation coating
- Steelwork was repaired and treated with a protective coating and asphalt walkways were repaired and coated
Although scaffolding and works were carried out over 13 month period, our focus remained on residents and ensuring a minimal amount of disruption was experienced as possible.
