External Refurbishment at King’s College London

The historic Hodgkin Building and Henriette Raphael Turret, part of Guy’s Campus, London, received concrete repair and waterproofing works.

Gunite (Eastern) Ltd was contracted by King’s College London to complete the concrete, masonry and window repairs needed to get the entrance steps, front elevation and Raphael turret looking their best again.  Situated on the south bank of the Thames, the Hodgkin Building is the original medical school of Guy’s Hospital and the Henriette Raphael was the first purpose-built nurses’ home in London.

Unfortunately, these stunning buildings were showing signs of their age, issues with cracking, damp penetration and delamination meant works were needed to restore them to their former glory.

Our Scope of Works:

  • Scaffolding
  • Cleaning and refitting of roof slates
  • Underpinning and concrete repairs to the entrance steps
  • Brick replacement and repointing
  • Timber and crittall window repairs
  • Mapei coatings
  • Sika Liquid Plastics – waterproofing
  • Glazing works
  • Decorations

While you’re here why not also take a look at more case studies to see examples of the external refurbishment and waterproofing projects recently carried out and the passive fire protection works completed by our sister company Gunfire.
