Passive Fire Protection of Varley Halls of Residence
Gunfire was contracted by ISG to supply and install passive fire protection solutions as part of the overall design and build of three student accommodation buildings for the University of Brighton. Varley Halls are the university’s largest halls of residence with rooms for nearly 500 students.
Our scope of passive fire protection works included:
- Fire stopping to service risers and penetrations through compartment walls to achieve 30 and 60 minutes fire protection
- Installation of 175 m2 of fire curtains and 6 NR fire rated access hatches to the pitched roof
- Encasement of fire dampers protruding through floors with intumescent batt and mastic
The project also achieved an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM environmental assessment rating, which is the worlds foremost environmental assessment method for buildings.
